We all dream of a flat and tight abdomen. However, sometimes even losing extra weight does not help to achieve this dream. Rapid weight gain and loss, genetic predisposition, and postpartum abdominal deformations can all be corrected with mini or full tummy tuck surgeries.

You had the most beautiful feeling in the world and you held your child in your arms. You nursed for days and nights.

Why is Abdominoplasty performed?

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure. In this procedure, it is aimed to remove the sagging of the abdominal skin. Although patients’ need for this surgery mostly occurs after serious weight loss or after birth, it is also applied as a suitable option for those who want to have a tighter and aesthetically good-looking abdomen.

How is it performed?

Abdominoplasty is the process of removing the excess, sagging skin in and around the abdomen by making an incision in the abdomen and tightening the abdomen from the inside with stitches placed inside the anterior abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty, which is applied to patients who have experienced heavy weight loss up to 50-60 kilograms or who have given birth 2-3 times, is a wide-ranging procedure that covers a 360-degree area and the upper and lower parts of the abdomen. Along with the surgery, liposuction may also be required. In addition, an alternative method, which we call mini tummy tuck, which targets sagging in the lower abdomen just below the belly button, is often preferred in smaller sagging cases. In both methods, the belly button can be repositioned, and if there was a disproportion in the original position of the belly button, it can be fixed as well.

Who is eligible for Abdominoplasty?

Individuals who have completed their birth processes, lost excess weight, and have not achieved the desired firmness in their abdomen despite applying the necessary sports and exercise programs are eligible. In addition, cases where sagging occurs after excessive weight loss or people who are uncomfortable with the disproportionate position of the belly button may also prefer this surgery. In short, we can say that tummy tuck surgery is suitable for those who want to have a tighter and flatter abdomen.

Is this a method for losing weight?

Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss method, but on the contrary, it is applied to people who have lost their excess weight. However, during the surgery, excess skin is removed from the abdomen and surrounding areas, and liposuction is also applied when necessary. This also leads to serious thinning of the waist area. In this way, the patient gains a more aesthetic and firm appearance. In other words, it is not correct to say that tummy tuck surgery is a slimming method, but it is clear that a slimmer and firmer appearance will be achieved aesthetically after the operation.

What is the different between full tummy tuck and mini tummy tuck?

In a full tummy tuck, a larger incision is made compared to a mini tummy tuck. In the full tummy tuck procedure, the operation is performed on the upper and lower abdomen. A mini tummy tuck is a procedure that only targets the lower abdomen. Since postpartum problems usually involve the lower abdomen, mini tummy tuck is preferred in these complaints. A full tummy tuck covers the entire waist circumference and often goes hand in hand with liposuction. The incision rate is large in full tummy tuck. In both procedures, since the incision will remain inside the bikini area, bad-looking scars do not occur after the surgery.

Is it possible to prevent abdominal sagging completely? Is this a repetitive procedure?

As in every health and aesthetic problem, some genetic and some biological factors play a role here. In order to prevent sagging of the abdomen, it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, eat a balanced diet and do regular sports. However, births, unfortunately, can cause unavoidable sagging if you have a hereditary predisposition. Although the creams and oils used during pregnancy and careful weight gain prevent some sagging and cracks, it is a common problem. For these reasons, it is recommended that people who will undergo tummy tuck surgery have completed all their birth plans and lost their excess weight, if possible. It is absolutely necessary to adopt a regular lifestyle in order to maintain their form after the surgery.

What are the issues to take into consideration before and after this procedure?

Eating and drinking should be stopped 8 hours before the operation. This is because the tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthesia. Since smoking negatively affects the recovery period and process, it is recommended to quit smoking before the surgery if possible and not to start again after the surgery. Two days of hospitalization is required after the operation. In this process, the patient is encouraged to walk a lot. Two days after the operation, the drains come out and the patient is free to take a shower. 7 to 10 days after the operation, the patient can return to his/her daily life completely. However, it should be noted that these processes may differ from person to person.
